For a client who is a self-learnt Vastu enthusiast, we had to go beyond the normal expectations of a Vastu-compliant house. While the requirement of placing rooms in vastu-appropriate quadrants is par for the course for new projects, here we had to understand the more nuanced rules that govern the exact positioning of elements from furniture pieces to wc’s.
The main entrance is at the first floor, opening into the main living spaces, from where the circulation branches to the bedrooms upstairs and the guest suite and home theatre at the ground floor. A tree planted in the ground floor opens into a circular puncture in the first floor creating an entry focal point.
Located on a corner plot, the horizontality of the residence is emphasized with the façade elements along the long side. Natural slate cladding and wood are the dominant materials for the façade.
